We wrapped up our winter study this week.
Here is the the finished mural with all their fabulous writing attached.
Our winter birch trees turned out beautifully!
After the students tore the tape and placed it where they wanted, they painted the background with water colors. Then they carefully removed the tape from the paper. We were sure to use painters tape so that it would come off easily. The students were fascinated by what they saw when they pulled off the tape! We then had a little chat about the white bark on the birch trees. They created the birch look by using black sharpie.
In Math we have dove into the world of ADDITION!
To introduce addition, we read two great books that make it fun and interesting:
You can listen to these stories by clicking right on the story titles above. They may help you have a conversation about addition with your child.
After we read the stories, together we created an addition anchor chart with lots of addition words to help us with the concept.
We explored many different addition strategies and made an strategies flip book. We will be practicing each of these specific strategies a lot in the weeks to come.
Our final winter writing project was these cute fingerprint snowmen. Students created the snowmen with their fingers, keeping in mind that they were going to write about what they are doing after they added details. Again, lots creative ideas here and great penmanship!
CONGRATULATIONS TO LUCIANA FOR BEING STUDENT OF THE WEEK!
