December 6th

WOW!  Many of the students presented their Family Heritage Projects this week.  I was so impressed with all of them. Thank you so much for helping then complete this at home.  All the students were so excited to share and they all could read what they wrote.  They could also explain and elaborate about each page.  I liked how they got so excited to share and show their favourite page of their project.  The audience was always intrigued and listened well.
The most exciting part of almost all of the presentations was the part about favourite family foods.  We had snowballs (twice!), cherry cheesecakes, pfeffernusse, Okanagan Peaches, shortbread cookies, and macaroni with hamburger. Mmmmmmm delicious!  We have learned that the origins of students in our classroom come from Canada and many other countries around the world.  We learned that we all have unique family traditions, as well as some similar family traditions.

Our final project for our colours theme was exploring tint and shade.  The students worked with acrylic paint to see what adding white to a colour would do.  They added white several times to get a lighter and lighter colour each time.  They also discovered that adding black to a colour makes it darker and they noticed how difficult it was to simply darken the colour and not turn the colour entirely black.  They discovered that you need a very, very small amount of black to darken a colour.  They created ice cream cones and to demonstrate their knowledge of lighter and darker, they ordered the ice cream scoops accordingly.

We wrote and illustrated our own version of The Gruffalo and then we practiced our Read to Someone skills by reading it to various partners.

Christmas is in the air!  What a wonderful Christmas concert we had!
And how spiffy everyone looked for their special night!
