October 4th

Our week was full of fall fun.  The students collected some leaves at recess and we tried some neat leaf print making.  We coloured the back of leaves with markers in fall colours.  Then we wet some plain cardstock with water and pressed the leaves on the paper.  The students were amazed at what happened!  Some of them turned out just beautifully!

We used ripping and collage techniques to create some other fall leaves.
We added them to our family tree board.

Meet our 1C Class Tree!  We went outside to study and share our observations about our tree.  One student noticed that it slanted sideways when we looked at it from far away.  Another student saw that it started as one trunk and then split into two.  We noticed all the leaves on the ground were yellow, but some of the leaves that were still on the tree are green but starting to turn yellow.  We talked about why the leaves may have fallen from the top of the tree first.

When we came back inside, we made a class journal entry as a group about our tree.  We will observe our tree throughout the seasons all year.

We brainstormed many things about fall, including months, weather, activities, clothing.  We will continue to talk about how animals prepare themselves for winter in the weeks to come.  Students added their thoughts to their Science Journals.

Our friend Zero the Hero came for a visit on the 20th day of school.  We did some fun counting activities to 20 and made a fall 20 tree.

It was very cold but there was a sun in the bight blue sky and we managed to really enjoy our trip to the corn maze this week. All the groups made it out of the corn maze (phew!).  They played on the fun trampolines, visited the animals and sunflower patch, played farm games and climbed on the haystacks.
