November 22nd

In continuing with our work with the colour wheel, we made these super cute ostriches using the primary and secondary colours.  We learned how to do quick, light strokes with oil pastels to get the feathery effect.

Another way to see how colour mixes - - - - Walking Water!
We predicted what would happen when the paper towel was placed in each cup.  Then we waited and observed.  The students were amazed at what they saw! We recorded our observations in our Science Journals.

Our focus in Language Arts recently has been learning some new spelling rules.

Owl oo's and Punching oo's

ch - the "choo choo train letters"
th - "the only time you can stick your tongue out at the teacher"
ar - the "pirate" letters
ou & ow - the "pinching letters"

We are also learning about Word Families.
We have learned the at, ad, and an families.
We do various activities, such as word families houses and Making Words activities.

Our culminating activity for our pattern unit was making these
cute little pattern worms.
Students were required to make two worms with different patterns.

Our Gruffalo book study is progressing along.  The students created a timeline of the events in the story.  We wrote the descriptions as a guided writing experience and then the students decided as a group what pictures were important to include in the timeline.  Then, they went to work creating the characters and setting.  They just loved doing this and were very engaged and focused.

Gabriel and Parker worked on the pathway and the Gruffalo. Harper worked on some trees.

We did a shared reading activity with a version of the Gruffalo in a mini book.

Our session about Indigenous games, legends and dreamcatchers was so much fun.  We learned so much through playing neat games, listening to legends and making some beautiful dreamcatchers.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MASON FOR BEING STUDENT OF THE WEEK!
