November 3rd

We had a great time celebrating Halloween this week with lots of neat activities.  We learned about the pumpkin lifecycle by reading this book and watching THIS pumpkin lifecycle video.   We wrote pumpkin sentences and sequenced how to carve a pumpkin.  We read the story Room on the Broom and did some cute writing with it. The students had fun taking a picture of themselves riding the broom. They are super cute!

On Halloween Day the students showed up in the greatest costumes - well done, everyone!
We participated in the school costume parade saw even more great costumes.

After the costume parade, we came back and designed
some pretty cool looking pumpkins.
First, students drew a picture of what they wanted the jack-o-lantern to look like.  Then as a group, they decided on which parts of each picture they would use on the pumpkin.  Parent helpers drew the design on the pumpkin. Students took turns hammering in the nails and wrapping the string around.  They turned out awesome and the students had a really great time doing it.  Everyone was engaged and having fun.  And best of all...... if wasn't messy!
Thank you to all the parents for coming out to help us with this project.

In the afternoon, we rotated threw some fun Halloween
centres with the other Grade One classes.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DEE FOR BEING STUDENT OF THE WEEK!
